Lutterworth College

College blog - 13th October 2017

Dear reader

I’m sure that you will be pleased to know that college leadership were put through their paces earlier this week in a ‘mocksted’ with our School Improvement Partner. Across all the areas of the school we were judged either securely or high Good; and hence that's what we be showing the  OFSTED  inspectors (when they come….).  So, at the end of a very positive half term we sign it off on a very good note – we know who we are – a very good school.

Parents might be interested to follow this link to see the headlines that Lutterworth College was the highest attaining school in Leicestershire in 2017! Great news!!

So, half term is here so as college teachers head off on a very well deserved break I am using this week's blog to update and remind you all on a few things that have happened and are happening at Lutterworth College (not necessarily in any chronological order..).

A big thank you to Hardeep Kang and her team that put together the Fatal 4 day last Friday for Year 12s – there has been some very positive parental feedback on it and it obviously made a big impact with the students.

Staff news: At the end of this half term we sadly say goodbye to Ashleigh Chambers. Those of you that have worked with Ashleigh, especially the Maths team, know of her absolute professionalism and dedication to the students. She will be missed by staff and students alike.  We also wish Emily Campbell & Hardeep Kang all the best as they begin their maternity leave over half term.

First of all, our next Parent Engagement Evening is happening on Tuesday 24th October - this is second one in the cycle of nine such evenings and we really hope it is as successful as the last.

Our first set of Progress Review reports for students in Years 7, 9, 10 and 12 are now available on GO 4 Schools.  Parents please check your emails for further information on how to access your child's report in GO 4 Schools.  If you are having any difficulties logging into GO 4 Schools please contact Mrs Hadley, Assistant Headteacher at m.hadley@lutterworthcollege.com

The Big Draw is coming on Saturday 28th October - a chance for all to come into college and get involved with our Art Department by making some college murals.

Miss Horton has asked me to remind those interested that Y7 and Y8 Dance club will be moved from Monday afterschool to Friday afterschool from 3:10-4:15 after Half Term. Any questions, please see Miss Horton in Dance.

Students & Parents in Year 8 should look out for the first collection of the GCSE option forms in November; further details to follow.

Mrs Shimoda writes about the recent Year 12 History Trip to Bosworth Battlefield

On 3rd October, a group of 12 Year 12 Historians visited the Richard III Museum, Leicester Cathedral and Bosworth Battlefield to find out what really happened on 22nd August 1485. We were able to     explore what happened to Richard in his last hours at the museum and were lucky enough to be taken around the cathedral by a guide who was able to point out many points of significance, including the beautiful stained glass window especially commissioned to commemorate Richard’s re-internment. The afternoon saw us travelling to Bosworth for a tour of the battlefield, a visit to the exhibition and a talk from a Medieval soldier on weaponry and battle tactics. The battlefield walk was illuminated by a re-enactment by the students and they also got the chance to practise their weapons skills under the tuition of the soldier. A thoroughly enjoyable and informative day was had by all.

Lastly, a couple of housekeeping items - please be careful if your are driving in and out of the Laurels visitor car park at the beginning or end of the school day - the area needs a little attention we know but there are pedestrian crossings that should be observed. Also, we are working on ideas around a student queuing system in our D Dining area - again we know its not perfect, and we are keen to make it better, but if any parent has expertise in designing areas for the public to use or works in a business that designs or builds public barriers I'd be very keen to have a chat - you can contact me via the college email.

Have a lovely week whilst the college blog takes a deserved break and will return on the 27th October
